Faiza Butt “PunjAB: A Sublime Terrain”

The Ministry of National Heritage and Culture of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan presents the Pakistan National Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, from 9 May to 22 November 2026, marking the country’s second participation following its debut in 2019.

“Punj•AB – A Sublime Terrain” is a solo exhibition by Pakistani artist Faiza Butt, curated by Beatriz Cifuentes Feliciano and hosted at the Ex Farmacia Solveni in Dorsoduro. Conceived specifically for the Pavilion, the project takes the Punjab as its starting point – the artist’s birthplace and a region shaped over the centuries by migration, exchange and cultural encounters – to develop a layered reflection on identity, memory and representation.

Monumental textile works, paintings, sculptures and video come together to create an immersive environment that brings history into dialogue with the present. Central to the project is Butt’s collaboration with artisans from the Punjab and her reinterpretation of traditional textile techniques, brought into the language of contemporary art through new scales, forms and modes of display.
