Fabrizio Plessi “Perdersi in un bicchier d’acqua”

Galleria Barovier&Toso presents Perdersi in un bicchier d’acqua, a solo exhibition by Fabrizio Plessi at the gallery’s spaces in Murano. The project stems from an invitation to the artist to engage with Murano glass as a purely artistic material, beyond its traditional functional dimension.

For his first major exhibition dedicated to Murano glass, Plessi returns to the archetypal forms of glassmaking – the bottle and the drinking glass – transforming them into autonomous sculptures in which the movement and turbulence of water appear to solidify into matter. The glass works are accompanied by drawings that reveal their genesis and the artist’s creative process.

The exhibition continues in the Sala dell’Acqua with a monumental ring-shaped installation, permeated by images and sounds of water and placed in dialogue with four historic Barovier&Toso chandeliers. The encounter between water, a central element in Plessi’s artistic research, and the fire of Murano’s furnaces thus becomes a metaphor for the dialogue between contemporary art, technology and the Venetian glassmaking tradition.
