Università Iuav di Venezia with the support of the Veneto Region through the Fondo Social Europeo (POR Veneto FSE 2014-2020), presents the Living Labs by FABBRICrafter, an annual research project that investigates biomaterials, recycling practices, and craftsmanship of the future by activating a widespread laboratory of clothing, footwear and accessories with the aim of contributing to the environmental and social sustainability of fashion.
The Living Labs start from the idea that fashion can be a positive agent of change and an opportunity for reflection on acting responsibly in research and training. They call for public and private dialogue, involving researchers, students, crafters, sustainability experts, and companies. In two days of events, innovators at local and international levels participate in the reflection on the future of fashion at the Iuav offices of the Venetian cotton mill and Warehouse 6, of the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum – Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, and Grafiche Veneziane. Curated by Alessandra Vaccari, professor of History and Theory of Fashion at Università Iuav di Venezia and scientific director of the project, the Living Labs begin with an exploration of radical didactic approaches, new geographies, communities and subjectivities, and their self-representations on digital media. This is a first step for the creation of the Fashion Futuring Research Center dedicated to these topics.
