Galleria Barovier&Toso presents a solo exhibition by Peter Kogler on view at Palazzo Barovier&Toso in Murano. For the first time in his career, the Austrian artist, a pioneer of computer-assisted art, engages with Murano glass, translating his distinctive visual vocabulary of tubes, ants, brains and globes into this material.

The project brings together two seemingly distant worlds: the immaterial language of the computer and the centuries-old tradition of glassmaking. Its starting point is the unexpected affinity between Kogler’s digital networks and Murano filigree, an ancient technique based on the intertwining of fine glass threads. Through his collaboration with Murano’s master glassmakers, the artist’s digital designs are transformed into physical objects, in which weightless images acquire mass, volume, transparency and fragility.

Sculptures, vessels and light-based works are presented within an installation that extends throughout the gallery, transforming walls, curtains and furnishings with the artist’s characteristic visual systems. Seven centuries of glassmaking meet forty years of digital research, exploring the connections between tradition, technology and contemporary perception.
